In April the Iranian director Akbar Zanjanpur is set to stage the play ”An Enemy of the People” by the Norwegian playwriter Henrik Ibsen. In 2006 it will be one hundred years since the death of Ibsen, and this is celebrated all over the world.
16/08/2007 :: ”An Enemy of the state” tells the story of Dr. Thomas Stockmann, a public minded doctor who lives in a small town that is famous for its public baths. Stockmann discovers that the water supply for the baths are contaminated and that this probably is the reason why many tourists have fallen sick. In his effort to clean up the water supply the doctor runs into political crowds, sold-out journalists, shortsighted armchair economists, and a benighted citizenry. The well-meaning doctor is publicly labelled an enemy of the people and he and his family are driven out of the town he was trying to save.
The play will be shown at the City Theatre Complex in Tehran. The cast will include Kazem Hajir-Azad, Akbar Zanjanpur, Siamak Safari, Parastu Golestani, Siyavosh Cheraghi, Sina Razani, Reza Molaii and Katayun Seifollahi.
