Norway allocates NOK 10 million for UNHCR Iran

Last updated: 13/12/2011 // Norway has decided to dispense with an additional grant of NOK 70 million at the end of the year. This contribution comes in addition to the NOK 290 million dispensed to the UN refugee agency earlier in February this year. UNHCR Iran office received NOK 10 million of this figure since Iran continues to host the largest refugee population in the world of 840,000 Afghans and 43,000 Iraqis. Due to implementation of the recent subsidies reform program, high inflation rate and a deteriorating socio-economic situation in Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Norway decided to earmark this money for these two especially vulnerable refugee groups to help prevent them from becoming destitute and marginalized.
